NEW YORK – THE dollar rose on Tuesday as worries about European debt levels and weak growth persist, while a drop in US consumer confidence boosted the US currency’s safe-haven appeal. In afternoon trading in New York, the 16-nation euro dropped to US$1.3515 (S$1.9084) from US$1.3608 late on Monday, while the British pound fell to US$1.5420 from US$1.5489.
